Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce honored the area’s top citizens and business leaders at its 92nd Annual Banquet and Awards ceremony, held Thursday at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.
The Chamber’s Outstanding Woman went to Jenny Wieser, chief operating officer of Fisher & Wieser Specialty Foods.
Outstanding Man went to Billy Johnson, owner of Billy Johnson State Farm Insurance.
Mayor Tom Musselman introduced Gary Neffendorf as the Outstanding Public Servant. Neffendorf has spent his entire career with the City of Fredericksburg and has served as its only city manager. Neffendorf was praised as having assisted with the development of many projects throughout his career, also writing grants for water resources, fiber optics and signage.
Tony Klein, president at Arrowhead Bank and former Chamber board chairman, was honored as Volunteer of the Year. Klein has served as a Chamber Ambassador since 2001.
The Community Achievement Award went to Terry and Cathy Collier, who recently retired as publisher and editor, respectively, of the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post.
Karen Oestreich introduced Kendra Jones, a senior at Fredericksburg High School, who was named Student of the Year. Jones is actively involved in band, choir and area horse clubs, among many other activities. The award is presented by the Chamber, the Optimist Club, and the Fredericksburg Academic Boosters.
